Facebook has just launched ‘Nearby Friends’, a feature that allows users to track their friends location in real-time, causing a privacy stir in the process.
Facebook has just launched ‘Nearby Friends’, a feature that allows users to track their friends location in real-time, causing a privacy stir in the process. The tool uses the GPS system to tell a user which Facebook friends are nearby, if they have the feature turned on. Instead of sharing the exact location, it will only show that they are nearby, within roughly half a mile and  users can choose to manually share a more precise location. The Nearby Friends feature, prohibited to people under 18 years of age,  will be turned off by default, so people shouldn't expect to broadcast their location unknowingly to their Facebook friends and acquaintances.

Sky has recently launched a tool that lets customers who follow the the company’s Twitter account record or watch Sky TV programmes when they see the #WatchOnSky hashtag on Twitter.

Alternatively, a record button is offered, allowing users who've linked their Sky+ box to remotely record programmes. The Sky+ app already allows users to view a TV guide and set up their Sky+ box to record, while Sky Go lets users watch up to 54 channels on a compatible phone or tablet.

The company won't use Wi-Fi or 3G plans to support their new service but they will let users place a call to a toll-free number, which disconnects after two rings. The system then calls the user and plays a 15-minute pre-recorded chunck of music interspersed with ads for the company’s soaps, skin creams, shampoos and detergents. Last month about 2 million people listened to Unilever’s free music service, that is available on mobile phones in two states.
