Argos & Sky working together to target TV Advertising this Christmas
Argos are revaluating their TV advertising strategy after working with Sky Media last Christmas to use the retailer’s sales data and the broadcaster’s consumption data to build a project they claim will generate £7milion in incremental revenue.

Mobile ad spend overtakes desktop – a sign of things to come
The PwC / Internet Advertising Bureau UK Digital Adspend report also shows the amount spent on mobile display ads (£802 million) overtook that of PC and tablet display (£762 million) for the first time. The study found that advertisers increased spend 16.4 per cent in the first half of 2016 to £4.78 billion – the highest first half growth rate for two years.

McDonalds closes YouTube channel
Fast food giant McDonald’s has closed its youth-focused YouTube campaign, dubbed “Channel Us”, because it failed to generate high levels of interest. Channel Us launched in September 2015 in a move that it described at the time as “a ground-breaking moment for McDonald’s in the UK” but none of the nine films posted in 2016 managing to hit 1,000 views. McDonald’s closed the channel down to move on to other campaigns.

In the latest IPA Bellwether report it shows that UK firms have increased their advertising spending budgets in the third quarter of 2016. As researched by IHS Markit on behalf of the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising the survey was published last Wednesday.

Amazon launches another Spotify rival
A second music offering has been launched in the US by Amazon, Amazon Music Unlimited is being offered at a reduced price only if its use is restricted to the company’s voice-controlled speakers. Echo owners who use this service would pay less than half the monthly fee of an Apple Music, Spotify, Google Play or Tidal subscription.

Made.com enables visual search
Online furniture retailer Made.com has implemented a visual search engine to help customers search for sofas. The visual discovery engine has been created by Hullabalook, a business backed by accelerator TruStart, and it says it revolutionises the search process by reading product descriptions, and analysing product images on behalf of shoppers, transforming them into a visual product discovery experience.
