Google to build self driving cars
Google will start building self-driving cars, choosing to build their own vehicles rather than modifying existing cars built by other manufacturers.
Google will start building self-driving cars, choosing to build their own vehicles rather than modifying existing cars built by other manufacturers. The car will have a stop-go button but no controls of any kind, steering wheel or pedals. It will seat up to two people, propulsion will be electric, and at the start it will be limited to 40km/h to help ensure safety. For early testing, extra controls will be fitted so one of Google's test drivers can take over if there is a problem.
Microsoft has unveiled a real-time language translation feature for its popular phone service Skype. The firm will launch a test version of the service, called Skype Translator, for Windows 8 later on this year. This decision comes as competition in the internet-based phone service sector has been rising, forcing firms to look at ways to attract more users.
Music-streaming service Spotify has become the latest high-profile technology company to be hit by a security breach. Apparently, no financial data had been accessed but other personal information, such as home addresses, was accessed. A big group of users will need to re-enter, but not change, their log-in credentials and all users of its Android mobile app will be forced to upgrade over the next few days. News of the breach comes a week after auction site eBay told all of its users to change their passwords.
