Mixing Digital: Events and News Round-up

Last week saw Jaguar Land Rover suspend UK digital ads following reports that it’s one of many big brands to be indirectly paying Islamic extremists, pornographers and white supremacists. This was an unintended consequence of algorithm technology used on some video-sharing websites. It also saw a turf war over privacy issues between private social network Streetlife users and US based Nextdoor which has just taken over the business.

Unilever invests in Augmented Reality treasure hunt game Snatch

Unilever Ventures have invested in an augmented reality game based around a treasure hunt. Snatch, is dubbed “Pokémon Go for brands” as it’s a new mobile gaming experience that lands players in a virtual treasure hunt where they grab and steal parcels which will allow them to win real prizes.

Online sales growth slowed in January: BRC

Online sales appear to have slowed in January, according to the latest figures from the British Retail Consortium (BRC). The BRC-KPMG Online Retail Sales Monitor for January 2017 found that online sales of non-food products grew by 8 per cent in January.
