Google puts 360 video to the test
Many brands are asking if 360 videos are worth it. The format is potentially revolutionary, but do they drive more engagement than standard ads. Google recently partnered with Columbia Sportswear to create an ad campaign around two US Olympic skiers enjoying an epic season in Chile.
Many brands are asking if 360 videos are worth it. The format is potentially revolutionary, but do they drive more engagement than standard ads. Google recently partnered with Columbia Sportswear to create an ad campaign around two US Olympic skiers enjoying an epic season in Chile. The brand enlisted the help of 360 Labs—a firm that’s been playing in 360 since the earliest Street View day plus a team of fearless Chilean ski photographers. They created two similar 60-second campaigns using TrueView which both included CTAs that drove to an extended version, compared metrics including view-through rate, viewer retention and “interaction rate and both the results showed that the 360 in-stream ad underperformed compared to the standard ad on view-through rate, and had a lower retention rate than the standard ad. The 360 ad had a much higher click-through rate, that shows viewers were more interested in checking out the full-length version of the video it also drove engagement via interactions even if people didn’t watch 30 seconds or more. Farfetch has created a new ‘Store of the Future’ platform. The Luxury fashion e-tailer thinks it has come up with a solution that will really change the digital in-store experience for luxury which will join together the online and offline worlds, using data to enhance the customer experience. The platform will allow brands and boutiques to collect information about their customers while they are browsing in-store, just as they collect data from online searches. The brand and boutique partners are able to pick and choose the elements of the offering that make most sense for their businesses. When the customer arrives in-store and uses the universal log-in, the sales rep will receive a notification letting them know that a connected customer is in-store. The sales rep can then access insights into their recent shopping behaviour provided via their connected profile, allowing store staff to provide a more tailored, personalised and high level of service.
