Uber has promised 50,000 jobs under a new European deal

Uber’s chief executive recently said he wants to make rapid expansion in Europe in 2015.

He told a conference in Munich that they could create 50,000 jobs under the new partnership with European cities. Uber started four years ago and now runs in 250 cities worldwide. The San Francisco start-up is valued at $40bn (£25.5bn), based on the latest fundraising from investors. Uber has been in the spotlight recently for not carrying out sufficient safety checks on drivers and their vehicles and they have been hit with court injunctions in Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain, and has faced protests from taxi firms in major cities, including London. Uber is working with governments on new rules to ensure public safety is protected,

Google Glass is not dead just yet

Google Glass 2 is no longer just a rumour, Google confirmed on January 16th that it was to close its Explorer programme and take the original Google Glass off the market on January 19th

They also confirmed that this is not the end for Google Glass. In a recent Google+ post they wrote: "Since we first met, interest in wearables has exploded and today it’s one of the most exciting areas in technology. Glass at Work has been growing and we’re seeing incredible developments with Glass in the workplace. As we look to the road ahead, we realise that we’ve outgrown the lab and so we’re officially “graduating” from Google[x] to be our own team here at Google. We’re thrilled to be moving even more from concept to reality. "As part of this transition, we’re closing the Explorer Program so we can focus on what’s coming next. January 19 will be the last day to get the Glass Explorer Edition. In the meantime, we’re continuing to build for the future, and you’ll start to see future versions of Glass when they’re ready. (For now, no peeking.)" The next generation of the wearable gadget will arrive in store at some point in 2015.

Facebook Test Voice Transcription

Facebook have been testing a voice transcription feature on some of its accounts for the Facebook Messenger app which will let users dictate messages hands free

and receive spoken messages back to them.  Facebook haven’t confirmed the number of accounts being tested and haven’t confirmed who will be able to access and use the tool at this stage.  Earlier this year, Facebook acquired speech recognition firm Wit.ai. At the time, there was considerable speculation that the acquisition would see speech-based controls and voice-to-text input added to Facebook’s Messenger service.
