Mozilla will test a plan that puts ads and sponsored content on the boxes that appear when Firefox users launch a new tab on the browser. Firefox already displays nine tiles showing screenshots of the websites visited most often by the user. Many users were concerned about Mozilla's plan announced earlier this year to add advertising to the boxes but it was assured the tests were designed exclusively to understand what the users find helpful and what parts they ignore or disable on the browser. Moreover, these tests are not about revenue and none will be collected.

A robot arm capable of picking up delicate objects such as eggs has been approved for use by US medical authorities. The Deka Arm has fingers that can move much like real ones making it easier for amputees to accomplish everyday actions. The arm has a much greater range of movement than existing devices many of which are based around metal hooks or designs more than 100 years old. US Army veterans helped to test and refine the prosthetic limb.

A European court has ruled that Google must change some search results at the request of ordinary people when they show links to outdated, irrelevant information, in an important test of the so-called "right to be forgotten" on the web. Under the new ruling, people can ask Google to delete sensitive information from its Internet search results. The ruling by the Luxembourg-based European Union Court of Justice (ECJ) came after a Spanish man complained to the Spanish data protection agency that an auction notice of his repossessed home 16 years ago on Google's current search results infringed his privacy. Google says forcing it to remove such data amounts to censorship. The search engine says it does not control data, it only offers links to information freely available on the internet.
